Here are the four key metrics we looked at when determining popularity:

– average home, away and total attendances
– average money spent on merchandise each year
– average money spent on food and drink during games
– average social media followers, engagement and likes

A new study has revealed that the Dallas Cowboys have the most fans in the NFL.
  
1 – Dallas Cowboys

Research shows that the Dallas Cowboys are the team with the best fans. They have the highest average attendance at home (93,465) and overall (82,915). A survey of fans of every NFL team found Dallas Cowboys fans to be among the biggest spenders, spending an average of $279.81 on merchandise and $147.68 on in-stadium food and drink. This shows that fans are willing not only to turn up in droves to support their team at matches, but also want to represent their team by wearing their merchandise.

2 – San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers have the highest social media engagement rate at 2.96%, proving that fans are present both online and at games. Also on the road, 49ers fans have one of the highest average road attendances (70,571). Their total average attendance is also one of the highest at 71,131. Fans also spend an average of about $210.31 on merchandise annually, which is higher than many other fanbases.

3 – Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have the third most popular fans in the NFL according to research. Just like the 49ers, the Chiefs have a high engagement rate of 2.51% and an average of 66,608 likes per post on their social media. The Chiefs have solid average home attendance of 73,499 and 70,764 on the road. However, compared to the First and Second Chiefs teams, fans were reported to spend less on merchandise ($170.45) and food and beverages ($87.11).

4 – Los Angeles Rams

The Rams also boast a good online engagement rate of 2.30%. Coupled with their total average attendance of 69,175, the Rams’ fan base is strong both online and offline. Polls also showed that the average Rams fan spent $332.08 a year on merchandise, one of the highest averages. However, on game days fans spend an average of $99.47, which is slightly lower than other fanbases in the league.

The Seahawks have the fifth most popular fan base in the NFL. Data shows Seahawks fans are engaging online, with an average of 60,018 likes per post. This online fan engagement also carries over to the offline action as an average of 69,335 fans come to game days spending an average of $98.75. This is slightly less than other teams, but still the support on game days and online helps them remain in fifth place on this list.

6 – The Raiders of Las Vegas

The Raiders have a 1.89% social media engagement rate and an average of 40,000 likes, which is higher than the league average of 1.52% and 28,008 likes. Raiders fans are consistent with their support on the road as an average of 69,953 attends away games. Fans also spend an average of $226.49 a year on merchandise.

The Steelers are seventh on this list. With over 3,400,000 Instagram followers, it’s impressive that fans maintain a 1.54% engagement rate. Texans fans come in tenth, with an average total of 68,427 games watched, the Texans have a good support base home and away.
